Walking the latest section of the England Coast Path
With the opening of the 68-mile stretch of England Coast Path from Middlesbrough to Filey Brigg, we’re looking forward to walking a new section just south of the beautiful fishing village of Staithes in the North York Moors National Park.
The path has enabled first-time public access to a stretch of headland with great views back to the harbour and cobbled streets of Staithes.
For our North York Moors trips we often visit the coastline so here are our top five spots that are located along the England Coast Path:
Staithes
Most people’s idea of a British fishing village is of tiny streets running down to a harbour, chocolate-box views and a fair sprinkling of tea rooms and pubs serving freshly-caught crab. Welcome to Staithes!
Runswick Bay
We love walking across the swathe of sandy beach and the rocky platforms that are great for a bit of impromptu rock pooling before climbing onto a headland with views stretching right along the coastline.
Whitby
The fishing port is often our base for a weekend’s jaunt as it means we can offer a great variety of walks, either striking out along the coast in either direction or heading inland for some strolls across the North York Moors. There are some great fish and chips and other foodie spots on offer as well. Join our Whitby Walking Weekend.
Robin Hood’s Bay
It’s easy to see why the village was once a smugglers’ haunt particularly if there’s a sea fret creating a misty secretive atmosphere.
It’s a great place for exploring midway through one of our walks, and there are plenty of places serving the all-important slice of cake and cup of tea.
Boggle Hole
Shush, this one isn’t yet on the general tourist trail and yet it’s a lovely secluded cove reached via the path which meanders through woodland. It’s also home to a YHA where there’s a café serving food from a decking area overlooking the sea – just lovely!
