The walking ‘setjetting’ hotlist for 2019
So many of us are inspired by locations featured in films and TV programmes that we’ve compiled a 2019 hotlist based on our own trips so you ‘set jetters’ can follow in the footsteps of the stars.
Mary Queen of Scots – Scotland
Scotland is once again in the spotlight with the release of the epic film Mary Queen of Scots. The actual film locations are based in the Cairngorm National Park and East Lothian but there are a whole plethora of captivating spots that mirror the scenery portrayed in the movie.
Scotland’s iconic mountain Ben Nevis will provide you with Scottish scenery in spades. However there are plenty of other Munros across the Highlands, from Ben Lomond to the delightfully named Buachaille Etive Mor, where forests, wild moorland and wonderful views are on offer.
If you’re keen on the heritage side combined with more leisurely walks then our trips to the Isle of Rum or the Orkneys provide a chance to soak up Scottish culture – from castles to ancient burial sites.
Alternatively book onto our festive trip to Edinburgh and make a beeline for the Palace of Holyrood House where the queen once lived.

The Secret Garden - Helmsley
This summer Colin Firth and Julie Walters star in this adaption of the classic children’s novel The Secret Garden. Key locations in the film include Helmsley Walled Garden, Duncombe Park on the edge of Helmsley and moorland shots in the North York Moors National Park at Farndale.
Luckily for all you Firth fans we stay in Helmsley for several of our North York Moors trips, and usually there’s plenty of time to take in the sights in and around this delightful market town.
Game of Thrones – Northern Ireland
Season eight of this epic series is due for release this year and claims to be the final one ever, so there’s even more reason to follow in the footsteps of heartthrob Jon Snow.
On our Ulster and Giant’s Causeway weekends you can go all giddy as we walk through the Dark Hedges (the iconic avenue of trees that Ayra Stark ran through after her escape from King’s Landing); stroll along the Fairhead cliff top where Jon Snow pondered his next move; or relive the action at Murlough Bay which was renamed Slavers Bay for the series.

Fisherman’s Friends – Cornwall
This true story of a group of Cornish sea shanty singers who hit the big time showcases the beautiful Cornish coastline. All the singers came from Port Isaac (the village made famous by Doc Martin), apart from one who hailed from Padstow.
The movie is predicted to be up there with Calendar Girls and The Full Monty so it’s fortuitous that we’re heading to Tintagel in North Cornwall just a few miles from Port Isaac for some great ambles along the South West coastal path and the chance to visit the village itself.
