The Large Outdoors
73% of Britons say that green and natural spaces are important to well-being and happiness, according to the Office for National Statistics, but even if you’re looking to get out into the great outdoors in 2014, it can be difficult to know where to start.
Large Outdoors is a national outdoor pursuits and social club, which started life in Manchester in 2008 and now runs regular walking trips and a range of outdoor events, taking in some of the country’s most beautiful countryside.
Seeking to make the great outdoors accessible, easy and safe, Large Outdoors has a team of expert guides and leaders who take the hassle out of walking trips by organising interesting routes, accommodation and refreshments to create fun, sociable events suitable for people of all abilities.
Large Outdoors founder Gareth Williams said: “It all started when I was looking for a walking club in Greater Manchester. I was looking for a friendly, sociable club which catered for people of all abilities and offered fun, safe and accessible activities and couldn’t find anything that fitted the bill.

“In 2008 I started Large Outdoors and since then I’ve realised that many other people are looking for the chance to walk and enjoy the great outdoors in a welcoming and friendly environment. Large Outdoors has grown and grown and now has more than 11,000 members with many choosing to attend events several times a month. We hold events across the country from walking weekends in the Peak District to day walks in Snowdonia.
“As well as our original and ever popular walking events, we now organise a range of other outdoor activities including: sea kayaking, abseiling, climbing, mountain biking, camping, coasteering and wild swimming and are constantly seeking to expand the range of activities we offer.”
