Howarth Timber Go Large for When you Wish Upon a Star

Howarth Timber is the UK’s largest privately operated timber group, specialising in providing high quality timber products for the building sector.

The Challenge

Howarth Timber is the UK’s largest privately operated timber group, specialising in providing high quality timber products for the building sector. As part of its on-going CSER program, Howarth Timber employees conduct a number of fundraising events for an annual nominated charity, working to raise money for a good cause and having fun in the process. Their current nominated charity is ‘When You Wish Upon A Star.’

‘When You Wish Upon A Star’ is a national charity which grants ‘wishes’ for critically ill children and their families. With a team of outdoor enthusiasts, Howarth Timber decided that a sponsored ascent of Snowdon in Wales would be a great way of achieving their fundraising target.

Approach

Responsibility for organising the event falls on the shoulders of Mark Terry, National Sales Manager at Howarth Timber. However, In order to maximise on time spent fundraising, Howarth Timber needed an experienced organisation to create a safe, fun and convenient event for their fundraising employees. An employee who had previously attended Large Outdoors events recommended us as an ideal partner for the charity event

With a team of experienced mountain leaders and a professional approach to fundraising events, Large Outdoors co-ordinated the event, allowing the Howarth Timber team to concentrate their efforts on fundraising.

Result

A total of 42 employees from Howarth Timber took part in the Snowdon walk, raising a total of £7500 for ‘When You Wish Upon A Star.’

Mark Terry, National Sales Manager at Howarth Timber said; “Working with Large Outdoors allowed us to fundraise for ‘When You Wish Upon A Star’ by creating a ready-made event which we were confident would keep our employees safe. The walk was superbly organised, meaning we could concentrate all of our efforts in reaching the summit and raising as much as we could for charity. Large Outdoors is a professional, experienced organisation and we will be using them to organise future fundraising events in 2013.”
