Gallery - Newbies Weekend – Ironbridge Gorge, Shropshire, October 2023

Discover the vast beauty of the great outdoors with our exhilarating walking adventure to Ironbridge! Tailored for first-timers – whom we affectionately dub 'newbies' – this expedition is brimming with history, nature, and camaraderie.

Choose between a leisurely stroll or a more extended walk. Starting from the Coalport Hostel, our journey takes us through the picturesque village of Ironbridge. Wander alongside the tranquil River Severn and behold the iconic bridge that lends the area its name. Just a short distance away, marvel at the historic furnace which pioneered revolutionary techniques in ironmaking that rendered such majestic structures possible.

Our route meanders through mixed woodlands, revealing glimpses of heritage museums and their remarkable artefacts, such as the imposing double-beam steam engine. History buffs are in for a treat! Along the way, trace the remnants of the old incline that once facilitated the movement of goods between the canal and river.

And what’s a walk without a little rest? It's almost obligatory to pause at the local pub. Lucky for us, the splendid October weather allowed for an outdoor coffee break. Our journey then follows a disused railway, leading us past the charming church in Jackfield and its renowned tile museum. A short distance later, we find ourselves crossing the very heart of our journey – the Ironbridge.

While some of our group indulged in the allure of local pubs, others ascended a steep hill to be rewarded with breathtaking views over the gorge, before looping back via the church.

Don’t let any preconceived notions hold you back! Our trips are open to everyone. While our newbie trips are designed to cater to those who might prefer mingling with fellow newcomers, there’s absolutely no prerequisite to join. Dive right in and relish the adventure that awaits!
