How do we grade our walks?

The glories of Goyt Valley on show with this day walk.

Our start and finish is at Whaley Bridge railway station making it perfect for those travelling by train. From the station we pick up a footpath that follows the shore of Fernilee Reservoir and eventually reaches some steep steps alongside a waterfall. From here we begin our hill climb, meeting open moorland and a ridge at Stake Farm.

Beyond the farm the route heads downhill, skirting woodland and the ruins of Errwood Hall before tracing the wooded edges of the two reservoirs and coming to the village of Taxal. It’s then an easy stroll back to Whaley Bridge.
