Suggested Itinerary

Here’s what we’ve got planned - of course, we may have to offer alternatives or make amendments if the weather misbehaves or other unexpected situations arise!

  • Arrive at Dol Peris Guest House from 5 pm onwards, where you’ll be able to settle into the relaxed atmosphere and meet fellow adventurers. This weekend runs alongside another Large Outdoors event, giving you a chance to chat with others looking forward to their outdoor activities.

Dinner will be served at 8 pm, followed by a briefing on the plans for the weekend, including what to expect from the scrambling routes.

  • Today, we’ll dive into our first scrambling adventure. While no previous scrambling experience is required, you should have a good level of hill fitness and a head for heights. Our possible routes include:

    • Daear Ddu Ridge, Moel Siabod: Located on the side of Snowdonia’s most accessible mountain, this route offers a gentle introduction to scrambling with stunning views across the Capel Curig area. The Daear Ddu Ridge is characterised by a series of rocky outcrops that offer just the right mix of hands-on rock action without being too exposed. It’s perfect for those new to scrambling, with plenty of opportunities to stop and take in the surrounding landscapes.

    • Llech Ddu Spur, Carneddau Range: Situated in one of Snowdonia’s more remote corners, this scramble provides a great balance of easy-to-manage rock sections and beautiful mountain scenery. The Llech Ddu Spur offers a secluded experience with views over the broad expanse of the Carneddau mountains. The route is less crowded than other popular scrambles, making it ideal for those looking to explore quieter areas of Snowdonia.

Both scrambles are suited for beginners, and no specialist kit is needed beyond your usual walking gear.

  • Our final day is all about the iconic North Ridge of Tryfan, a classic Snowdonia scramble rising from the Ogwen Valley. This route climbs continuously from the shores of Llyn Ogwen to over 3,000 feet, offering a thrilling experience for adventurous walkers.

The ridge is known for its ‘blocky’ scrambling, which provides a different style compared to routes like Crib Goch but at a similar level of challenge. As you ascend, you’ll be treated to dramatic views across the valley and the peaks beyond. At the summit, we’ll see the famous rocks of ‘Adam and Eve’—two boulders marking the peak—and admire the views of the surrounding Glyderau mountains.

After soaking in the summit views, we’ll descend via an easier path back to the valley, where there may be time for a final drink at a local café before heading home.

  • The first designated National Park in Wales, Snowdonia (Eryri National Park) includes Wales’ highest mountain, Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa), and an array of other peaks. Beyond the mountains, there are valleys, sandy estuaries, glacial lakes, forests and miles of walking trails.

Bounded by the Rivers Conwy and Dovey in the east and south, the view to the north and west stretches over the sea where, on a clear day, you can see the Llyn Peninsula, Cardigan Bay and even Ireland. Nestled among the mountains, you’ll find the history of the area in the form of sheep farming, forestry, and slate mining, and settlements dating back thousands of years.
