Walking Weekend: Group Walking Adventure in the Tranquil Peak District
Experience a true “get away from it all” walking weekend in the beautiful Peak District, where group walking meets rustic charm, isolation, and tranquillity.
We’re staying at the National Trust’s Dalehead bunkhouse, nestled deep in the Edale Valley, surrounded by sheep, streams, and vast starry skies. Right from the front door, we’ll be stepping into fantastic walking territory, making the most of two days’ group walking with scenic routes, cosy pub stops, and plenty of camaraderie.
Back at the bunkhouse, enjoy a cosy living room with a roaring log fire, a delicious two-course meal provided by us, and the perfect opportunity to stargaze right outside. It’s a rural escape designed for those ready to soak up all that the Peak District has to offer!
Suggested Itinerary
Here’s what we’ve got planned - of course, we may have to offer alternatives or make amendments if the weather misbehaves or other unexpected situations arise!
-
As you venture down the track to our secluded bunkhouse, you might wonder, “Where are we going?” But rest assured, it’s worth the journey! Arriving at our charming stone-built farmhouse, you’ll instantly feel the peace of the countryside. With fresh country air and the beautiful Peak District surroundings, it’s time to switch into relaxation mode.
Our host will be there to welcome you with dinner already on the go and tea ready to pour, making it easy to settle in and meet the group. Over dinner, we’ll dive into plans for the weekend’s guided walks, setting the scene for a memorable adventure in this stunning landscape.
-
Unlike some of our weekends, we’ll be focusing on one immersive group walk each day. After breakfast, we’ll set out for a challenging yet rewarding 12-mile hike. We’ll begin by ascending Rushup Edge, where sweeping views over the Peak District await.
Next, we’ll head towards Kinder Scout, navigating its rugged edges and stopping to marvel at the weather-sculpted boulders of the Woolpacks. We’ll descend via Grindsbrook Clough and make our way into Edale, the official start of the Pennine Way. With two inviting pubs in Edale, we’ll pause for a well-deserved pint before the final stretch back to our bunkhouse.
After a full day of walking, you’ll have time to unwind before dinner (or a BBQ if the weather is kind), soaking in the tranquil setting of our rustic base.
-
Our final morning will be a more relaxed 8-mile hike. We’ll climb to Hollins Cross, then up to Mam Tor, known as the “Shivering Mountain,” for breathtaking views over Castleton and the surrounding valleys.
After enjoying the scenery, we’ll make our way back to the bunkhouse, with a chance to pop into Edale for refreshments before you set off for home, fully recharged from your weekend in the Peak District.
