Dark Skies Experiences at… Kit List
This Kit List only applies to the following ‘Dark Skies Experiences’
This Kit List does not apply to any of our other stargazing experiences..
Compulsory items are listed at the top - you must have these items with you to begin your activity with us.
The compulsory items are selected for your safety, which is of paramount importance to us at Large Outdoors. Each participant should be carrying the items listed. Your guide or activity leader makes the final decision in regard to your suitability to complete the activity and can refuse to let you participate if they feel your safety (or the safety of the group) is being put at risk. Please refer to the ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF RISK AND APPROPRIATE FITNESS/EQUIPMENT section in our Terms & Conditions.
Underneath these compulsory items we have listed recommended kit that should help make your experience more enjoyable.
If you are unsure about anything, from kit to the expected fitness level for the experience you have booked, please contact us.
COMPULSORY
Waterproof Jacket & Trousers - There is an indoor contingency plan if the weather’s not on our side for stargazing, but it’s worth having waterproofs with you to ensure you stay dry when moving around the experience location if the weather is wet.
Sturdy Footwear - A good pair of walking boots or sturdy shoes that you’d go for a walk in. There will be a short walk from the parking area to the outdoors area we’re using for stargazing and we may come across a mix of terrain (e.g. grass, gravel, wooden decking, paving, tarmac). You’ll be outside for 2-3 hours, so please make sure your footwear is appropriate and will keep your feet warm.
Warm Clothes (layers advised) - Bring plenty of layers to ensure you keep warm - you’ll be outside for 2-3 hours and not moving around that much, so it’s important to keep wrapped up.
Hat & Gloves (waterproof advised) - You need to keep your head, hands and neck warm - a hat paired with a buff and some waterproof gloves is ideal.
Personal First Aid Kit - Whatever personal medication you need, if required. All of our walk leaders/guides are first-aid trained.
Head Torch - This must be a head torch, not the torch on your mobile phone! The ideal head torch for our Dark Skies Experiences will have a red light function, but this isn’t essential.
Mobile Phone - It’s always good practice to have your mobile phone with you when exploring the outdoors, in case of emergency, but we’ll also be able to share some of the photos we take with one of our telescopes during the evening.
RECOMMENDED Kit
Rucksack / Backpack / Small Bag - Feel free to carry your spare layers or any food/water you may wish to bring along in a small bag.
Flask (of your favourite hot drink) - We will be supplying tea and coffee during these evening experiences, but if you have a favourite brew you hate to be without, or specific dietary requirements, please feel free to bring along your own.
