Our Northumberland walking weekend is designed for those who want to combine scenic walks with a bit of history. From the impressive Bamburgh Castle to the tranquil Holy Island, this weekend showcases the best of the region’s coastal beauty and heritage. You’ll stay in a cosy country inn, enjoying leisurely days exploring, followed by relaxing evenings to unwind and socialise. With a mix of coastal paths, village visits, and plenty of time to soak in the scenery, this trip offers a perfect balance of activity and downtime.

Suggested Itinerary

Here’s what we’ve got planned - of course, we may have to offer alternatives or make amendments if the weather misbehaves or other unexpected situations arise!

  • Arrive from 3pm to check in at our cosy country inn, where twin rooms will be ready for you. For those arriving by train, we offer a complimentary pickup from Berwick-upon-Tweed at 5pm. At 6pm, join your Large Outdoors host for a welcome drink and a chance to meet your fellow walkers before a relaxed evening and dinner (not included).

  • After a hearty breakfast, we’ll head to Bamburgh for a scenic coastal walk, taking in the magnificent views and exploring the historic Bamburgh Castle. There will be time to enjoy the village and beach before returning to the inn for the evening.

  • Following breakfast, we’ll make our way to Lindisfarne and walk across the tidal causeway to Holy Island, timing our route with the tides. Explore the abbey ruins, wander through the village, and experience the unique atmosphere before heading back across the sands and returning to the mainland.
