How do we grade our walks?

This experience is a lovely circular Active walk (learn how we grade our walks) of 12 miles (19.3km), from Haworth. There’s a Large Outdoors guide to take care of navigation and fellow walkers to soak up the West Yorkshire scenery with. Most groups complete this walk in around 7 hours.

This moderately hilly walk couldn’t be more atmospheric: from the gritty Yorkshire village of Haworth - famously home to the UK’s most famous literary sister act, the Brontës - to the brooding moorlands that inspired Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights.

Suggested Itineray

Our starting point is the Brontë’ Village car park. From here, your Large Outdoors guide will lead the group straight out and up the steep incline towards Penistone Hill. It’s a steep climb but it’s fairly short, and by the time we’ve reached the top you’ll have Kate Bush’s song ringing in your ears! The rewards are the panoramic views and the spectacular moonscape scarring left by historic quarry workings.

Now, we pick up the Millennium Walk and reach a ravine featuring the beautiful Bronte waterfalls, a series of stepped falls over layers of grit-stone. Apparently, it was a favourite spot for the three Brontë sisters to hang out and it’s worth looking out for the L-shaped stone where they used to sit.

We then follow the Pennine Way to Ponden reservoir before climbing up to Oakworth Moor, a tranquil spot with sweeping views across the moorland before we dip back down to Haworth.

Once back in the village, perhaps you and your fellow walkers will have time to saunter through the cobbled streets and see the Bronte Parsonage before succumbing to a very enticing slice of cake or drink from one of the mighty fine tearooms or pubs.
