Where can you get the best beach walks?

At Large Outdoors we're not just keen on getting into the hills. The UK is a great place to explore forests, waterways, and of course our fantastic coastline. If you want to find the best beach walks in the UK, look no further than these great trips we've got lined up.

The Gower Peninsula

Sticking out into the Bristol Channel is the peninsula of Gower, with miles of cliffs, marshes, and some of the best surfing beaches in South Wales. All along the western side the beaches span gaps between impressive rock formations such as the Worm's Head off Rhossili Bay, and the northern end hosts a protected nature reserve of sand dunes and seaside woodland. In the south, after a few miles of cliffs, you can also explore Oxwich Bay, another nature reserve and a beautiful 2 miles of golden sand.

North Devon

Although primarily known as an area of high cliffs, where even the rivers have to drop several hundred feet to reach the sea, there are also some great beaches. Though not your typical sandy beach, the impressive wave-cut platforms and rocky shore of Clovelly Bay makes it a dramatic place to explore. There are patches of sand amongst the rocks, and the whole bay is surrounded by woodland, increasing the sense of wilderness.

Pembrokeshire

The great south-western Welsh peninsula of Pembrokeshire is an adventure playground of climbing cliffs and hidden bays. Throughout the year you can see thousands of seabirds, and the coastline is host to its very own National Trail. The major beaches here are the iconic Whitesands Bay, near St David's Head, and the surfing hotspot of Newgale Sands, though there are many more. If beach walking and wildlife get you excited, there are few places better than here.

Jurassic Coast

The closest thing you're likely to get to walking with dinosaurs, the Jurassic Coast not only has some of the UK's most famous rock formations, such as Durdle Door, it's also the place to look for fossils. With great cliffs on one side, and the crashing waves on the other, this is a beach walking destination with more than your usual sun and sand.

Scotland

It may be known more for high mountains and wilderness, but Scotland has some incredible beaches, long stretches of sand which can be found in a surprising number of places up both coasts. There'll be some new Scottish destinations announced for next year … so keep watching! View our Scotland Trips...
